Went to see John Wick 2 last weekend and really enjoyed it. Expect slick fighting moves and moody faces aplenty.
In my book it's classic 7.5/10 territory. Cannot say more than that for now.

I also watched 'Wild' over the weekend on Netflix. Fantastic visuals and based upon a true story of a young woman coming to terms with some shiv in her life. Absolutely loved it and nice to watch something so completely different to the comic based stuff that abounds these days.

Taken - had never seen it before. Didn't realise it was so many years ago now it came out.

Con Air - got round to finishing it after starting it the other week. Again, a first viewing for me.

Dinosaur 13 - enjoyable docu-film about the digging up of and then troubles following on from a T-Rex find. :ugeek:

Rogue one - decent Blu Ray rip dropped. Very very very good. Gets all the nerd tears flowing and is so genuine with the old tech, its amazing.

Beauty and the Beast. Actually very good. Luke Evans plays Gaston so well. The beast did look quite animated at times, but the singing and visuals were great. If you're into the Disney Renaissance era, they have done it justice with this film.

I caught Dr Strange just at the cinema before it came out on Blu-ray which I think was worth it as it seems to be better to see it on the big screen. It struggles with being a drawn out origin story and pretty rubbish bad guy similar to a lot of the Marvel films although there's some superb Inception-esque visuals along with good performances from Tilda Swinton and Benedict Cumberbatch in a slightly different take on super powers and the Marvel universe make up for it.

Spoiler:
Mads Mikkelsen in particular just feels completely wasted as a very generic bad guy particularly when it looked like it was going for something a bit more intriguing when you find out the ancient one is abusing the dark power he is but then that goes nowhere and it finished with a horribly generic CGI bad guy. I did like his little moment when he meets Dr Strange and asks 'Mister?' 'Doctor' 'Mister Doctor?' 'Strange' 'Yes but who am I to judge?'

I thought the ancient one's end was quite emotional as she explains to Dr Strange she's seen this moment coming for many years but she still can't let go as the slow motion lightning streaks across the sky.

Also watched the Girl who leapt through time which is a Japanese animated film about a school girl who unsurprisingly can leap through time. The way it's drawn and animated is appealing (it reminded me of the Animatrix where there's the screwed up warehouse that the kids are playing in) although it falters towards the end and feels a bit unsatisfying.

Finally I gave Jack Reacher Never Go Back a go which has had quite a mixed reception, despite the seeming miscasting of Jack Reacher I thought the first film was done well and a good take on the book. I've not read Never go back but the film was a big disappointed pretty much from the start as within the first few minutes Reacher gets involved in a big conspiracy and then is on the run...that's pretty much the whole film along with about the most generic teenager possible who they pick up along the way as they try to get away from the generic bad guy military company. There's no mystery or investigation which is part of the appeal of the Reacher books so I'm curious to see what the book's like as I suspect it's a lot better.

Continuing my 'let's watch old movies' theme...

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Michael Cera playing the same role as he always seems to do (or did). A movie I doubt would work now as the music scene is different now to what it was back in 2008.

I'm sure there are some others but I can't think what at the moment.

When channel flicking I came across Team America which I accidentally ended up watching entirely, the silly puppets and their vehicles are still just as hilarious and it feels more relevant now than it did 14 years ago when it was released.

Finding Dory - Not great, too similar to Finding Nemo (one of the worst Pixar films) obvious jokes, poorly paced.

Rogue One - Very disappointing, poorly paced, no character development or motivation the fact everyone trusts each other with little reason or convincing, the Tarkin/Leia CGI wasn't good enough to be believable so was jarring. But at least the pew pews were right and it was relatively pretty if lacking standard Star Wars iconography, no opening crawl, the use of jump cuts rather than wipes and fades, the use of title cards to introduce planets, the colour pallet being off etc.

Star Trek Beyond - meh, I honestly don't remember much of what happened in it. The most memorable moment being the predictable Beastie Boys/classical music joke ripped almost straight from Red Dwarf.

kimi no na wa - Or "your name".

Won a signed poster by the director so finally managed to download a copy of the film. Its up there with the best of Ghibli for sure. excellent animation, and a great storyline.

Will watch it again for sure!

Glad you enjoyed it! I saw it at a packed cinema with loads of Japanese people, it was an amazing experience to hear them laugh and react to bits of the films that I didn't quite "get" as much, as I haven't grown up there obviously. Would like to seem more anime films like this as really added another dimension to it. They really got into it in a nice way.
