What have you bought today - VOL 4

Postby EviL Ras » 22 Aug 2017, 20:05

Nice matt!

I got a manfrotto pixi evo 2 and a small manfrotto camera bag. This fits my a6000 with 16-70 f4 lens attached, the 50mm f1.8 lens and my sony camcorder. Much smaller than my tenba bag, as i'm not taking my 70-200mm f4 lens to Mauritius. And the pixi evo mini tripod fits in the top of the bag for a very compact camera pack!

And a 64Gb micro SD card for my tablet so we can download and take some films with us on holiday!

Oh, and some more T-shirts from Jacamo so i can dress half decent at work and on holiday!

What have you bought today - VOL 4

Postby Johnmcl7 » 25 Aug 2017, 13:46

I bought myself a very pretty book which is a special edition with a detailed texture surface, individually numbered and signed by the author. It's the second book I've got like this and while it's a little pricey I do like how special it feels and once the books are sold, there's no real chance to get one again.

I bought a refurbished Latitude 12 7275 tablet which I've always fancied for its stunning 4K screen which I thought would be good to have at work as a photo frame and just a machine to keep at work. It's meant to be an alternative to the Surface and comes with a slick case with a stiff kick stand and feels more portable than my other tablet 2 in 1's, there's a similar case for the Latitude 11 which I might give a go rather than its more bulky battery keyboard dock. However the rest of the of the machine is oddly designed as it goes with two USB-C ports (both with thunderbolt) but no full size ports unlike similar tablets which offer one port of each and there's no dedicated display output either, the SD card slot is a much less useful micro SD slot. I think it will be good for what I'm wanting it for but I'm really not sure what the designers were thinking with it.

I renewed the car tax for a horrible £280 although had to laugh at the warnings that tell you to confirm you are the named person on the V11 renewal and you're not doing it for someone else...if someone else wants to pay my road tax for me, they're more than welcome!

Picked up a Nintendo Switch and have been playing Mario Kart 8 all afternoon both on my own and with the Mrs.

Love it so far and hope we can pick up a few other decent games too

Mk8 is extremely good and I've been tempted to pick it up the Switch a few times for it particularly as it has the missing battle mode but I've played it way too much on the Wii U and don't think I'd play it much more on the Switch.

Aldi have their biking event on so got a bag full of maintenance stuff, some lights and stuff to keep me warm over the winter.

Also bought a second hand special edition Gears of War controller as I've bought a couple already and like the feel of them so want to replace one of my other X1 controllers, this one was reduced because despite being in good condition it had scratches on the casing. However what makes this a special edition controller is that it has a laser moulded casing that features deep scratches into the plastic so partially curious I ordered it anyway and it's in perfect condition, the DLC code is still in the box (yet to test it) but it looks untouched.

I caved in and bought a new mudguard for my fat bike which has been running on half a mudguard after the last endurance race wrecked the mounting, it finally fell apart a couple of weeks ago and been getting covered in mud since then. The one I've gone for is a more expensive one but it cable ties onto the fork instead of jamming in the steerer and seems a simple design so I'm hoping it doesn't fall apart like all the others have.

I feel that's pretty good going as I've done a lot worse although in my defence, it was mostly items I was after anyway.

The damage so far is a Garmin 360 camera (been wanting this for a while), 64GB micro SD card, 128GB micro SD card, 128GB high speed USB stick, 12TB hard drive, Google Chromecast, Craghoppers trousers, a Lego VW Beetle and a few Lego minifigures.

Not Black Friday but finally bought my Note 8 as well.

Just got the Dyson AM09 hot and cool fan for £229 on the Dyson website. looking at the camelcamelcamel website its the cheapest its ever been.

Really wanted to get the alienware 15 with i7 7700hq, 8gb Ram, 1tb hdd, GTX 1070 8gb for £1333. But couldn't convince my wife nor wallet that this was a good idea!

There's a few of those Dyson fans at work and their performance is extremely impressive as they use them in quite open areas where you wouldn't think a fan like that would make much difference.

That's a great deal on the AW and I'm tempted by getting a similar machine from time to time but I think as much as I hate to admit, the noise weight and heat would just annoy me.

yeah, 3.5kg in weight vis 1.8 kg on the MSI with the GTX 1070 Max-Q. Albeit at £2300 instead of £1333 for the AW. Hence AW looks like it might get me back in easter (used to have the Red M14x).

Just got Doom on Steam. £9.99 with all the DLC. never played the new version as i was waiting for a new laptop! But figured what the hell, lets go kick hells ass! In low res GTX 870m style!

Well I have dumped the S8 already and bought an iZphone X to replace it.

Prefer the tighter integration in iOS as it’s annoying with Android providing one thing and Samsung putting alternatives there as well. Plus stupid things like that damn Bicby button.

The face recognition on the X works really well and is a vast improvement on Samsung’s version.

Well they've apparently got Doom working pretty well on the Switch so hopefully you can get decent performance out of the 870m. It's a superb game, not just because it's a very good sequel to the original but also it's refreshing to have a decent run and gun game like that as they're so rare these days and still so fun to play. The VR version of Doom is out very shortly and it sounds like Bethesda have put a lot of effort into making a great VR game rather than just updating the original game so I'm hoping it will be good, I've not used the VR for a while and would be good to get back into it.

I've had a bit of a challenge with Android tablets as my Dad decided he wanted one and although he never uses any form of technology, I thought potentially he might get on with it better since there's a lot less precision needed but was stuck between getting a dirt cheap tablet that may not be very good or getting a decent one that would likely just gather dust. I spotted a Galaxy Tab S2 second hand from Game but a good price and thought it was worth a go as my Mum liked her one, it's still a decent spec and she'd be able to help him with it so bought it, set it all up for him and to my surprise he was actually using it on his own. It died quite suddenly though but wondered perhaps it had been used more than I thought, I charged it up and even with little use it was dead again on Saturday morning. On checking the battery use, nothing was hammering the battery but any time it was used the battery dropped very quickly. In the meantime it was possible to get one of the cheaper Samsung tablets reduced from £230 to £150 so took it back to Game, got a refund ok and then managed to get the last Samsung tablet from Tescos.

Hopped onto Amazon warehouse and managed to get a cheap official Samsung cover so I think that's me almost done with the Black Friday deals, been keeping an eye on the warehouse but it seems most of the good stuff is gone.

Also couldn't resist the UCS Snowspeeder, I've never bought any of the UCS kits and it seems a good model and not too large. Also I feel I did well resisting the Death Star which was a hundred pounds off and comes with a pretty awesome selection of 32 minifigures.
