Mass Storage controller Drivers?

Postby raith_rovers_fan on 24 Feb 2010, 23:56

Trying to use my 2.5inch External enclosure with the 60Gb HDD out of my PS3 but it seems be unable to install its own drivers. When I go into device manager to look for it i find that the standard windows mass storage controller driver is not installed and windows can't find it on the net. Will this be the same for all external hard drives?

I need to use it to back up my stuff for the upgrade from RC to full windows 7 which expires in 5 days.

anyone know how to fix it?

Cheers

Have you formatted the drive first?

99% the drivers are installed automatically in xp, vista, 7
maybe the enclosure is malfunctioning? did you use it before with other drives?

What format is the drive under PS3? I had exactly the same problem recently with a drive formatted for Mac - I had to get a piece of software called MacDrive, or somesuch, that would allow me to mount the drive under Windows. I was then able to read it, copy the data off it, format it to NTFS and then copy the data back. A quick Google suggests that this is the problem, although I haven't looked extensively. Perhaps you could use a Linux live disc to view the drive and choose one that will let you format it to FAT32 or NTFS?

I think the drive is FAT 32 so it should see it but even in device manager it won't allow me to format it. It just says the drivers are not installed and I can't do anything with it?!?

I will look in to it good doctor! cheers

Oh and the enclosure was working before with my old laptop HDD to get the data off when i upgraded it. That was on this same copy of Win7 so i am assuming it is a problem with the formatting or the physical drive its self.

Aha I was just being stupid! :slap:
A few things I have discovered, PS3 is not FAT32 but some other filing system (RAW?) so I will need to format it, which i was planning to do anyway but what was showing up in device manager was actually my old hard drive that windows had saved from before somehow and would not let me do anything with it, i am guessing cos it wasn't present in the laptop. So i formatting the right one now lol.

cheers guys have :cakeee:
