Now that is quite interesting, won't work in all set ups but would be a great way to hide it away and sway the argument with the better half of "I'm not having another ruddy box cluttering up my candle display..."

John, that remote control night shot photo is stunning!

if we are talking about the same picture: it has a lot of noise but yes, it still looks great!
There will be something very funny and possibly smart written here as soon as it pops into my mind. Any time now...

I'm 75% on it but I'll have to check that info, I know the new Eee Box has a VESA bracket option to go onto the back of a monitor/TV.

Didn't see any point in cleaning up the noise as you get the idea, my pro body is irritatingly away for repair at the moment so I'm stuck using an older body with no IS and poorer noise filtering.

I think this would make a quite good media server, especially if it was fitted with a larger HDD. I have recently been experimenting with using a Media server through my PS3 and am amazed at how it effortlessly streams 1080P video from my laptop :) I think that to be a proper HD media center, the inclusion of a blu-ray drive would be a must. Otherwise you may aswell just buy a cheap laptop whcih will have an HDMI port and a screen and a keyboard aswell!

At the time Pete said that Asus were considering selling this machine in the UK but it seems like they decided against it in the end. Ultimately I ended up buying a Dell Studio Hybrid.

I have to admit it is a fantastic looking little machine. How does it compare to your little Dell John?

The Dell works the opposite way round to the Asus in that it uses a more powerful processor and an onboard graphics card rather than a weaker processor and a dedicated graphics card. The Dell is also considerably more expensive even in its 'cosmetically damage' form plus my intended role has changed for this machine. At the moment it looks like it's not going to be taking the place of the old C400, instead it's going to function more directly as a server rather than hosting files. I would like to get AD running on it as well as a Steam dedicated server and possibly others although with the problems two of my other machines are having they're currently getting most of my IT time.

Just to let you know...

This machine works great with every file I throw at it... I've even tried Quicktime 1080p trailers and they played great... no skip.

.MKV ( 720p / 1080p ) and lower.

Make sure you use this... It uses the video card for playing video files:

Thanks for this post... was very helpful :)

Thanks for the post Crussader and welcome to the forum, that software you've linked to seems to be exactly what this machine needs. Where did you buy this PC?

Hey!

I bought it at Media Markt... the thing is that I'm in Canary Islands, Spain ;).

Another thing to note is that mine came in a bundle slightly different than yours:
- 250GB HDD.
- wireless keyboard.
- wireless mouse.
- and like 4 discs of Windows Vista hehehe
