Phone update - 2016

Postby Replicant » 06 Jun 2016, 13:48

Just thought I would see who was using which type of mobile and their thoughts on it.

I am still using my Apple 6s but have unexpectedly got the chance to change phone. Galaxy S6 Edge didn't quite do it for me last time but the 7Edge looks like a winner with the upgradability, waterproofness, Android Pay now Live as well as a few other things.

Just wondered how Touchwizz was these days and whether I should perhaps be looking at the HTC10 or something else.

Opinions would be welcome.

I am quite anti touchwiz, but it's much better now. You can install the Google Now launcher too to strip it back even more.

I would def get a Edge 7 if I wasn't a Nexus man.

I love my S6 edge. Its a cracking little phone and touchwiz is ok on it. On my samsung tablet, i use the google launcher and it works better on the bigger screen than touchwiz.

I'd jump at an S7 edge. that water proof and awesome camera. But i'd miss the IR blaster!

S7 edge is arguably the phone to beat at the moment. the LG G5 is good, but gimmicky. The HTC is good but doesnt bring stuff to the party like Samsung.

I'm still using my slightly damaged Note 4 but there's nothing I've seen that I'd consider replacing it with as there's very few phones now in that class with replaceable battery and microSD support. There's very little wrong with the Note 4 as it has a decent screen, performance is good and it has a great camera - I'd like better batterylife but it's typical of current smartphones.

I don't use Touchwiz and instead use Nova Launcher initially because Samsung's software doesn't support a custom DPI (I run a modified DPI as the default scaling on the Note makes everything huge and I prefer it smaller) but I really like the custom launcher anyway now. It's great being able to customise the interface and also being able to save/restore the layout after factory resetting the phone.

Rus, do you keep your S6 Edge in a case? If so which one do you use?

Well it looks like a shootout between the GS7/GS7e and HTC10.

Never had an HTC (well not since the old Tmobile MDA Vario II) so that is an unknown entity to me nowadays. I don't know anyone that has one and don't hear much love for them on here so wondering whether to stay away.
I like the waterproofness of the S7's and that is a big draw for me. Trying to decide whether to go for the Edge or not. Most blogs I have read have said that this is mainly a gimmick that gets in the way of using the camera.

Hmmmm decisions, decisions.... :help:

I'm a fan of HTC, had an Incredible S originally then moved to a HTC One (m7). After 2 years the phone was still going strong so decided to move to a sim only contract and keep the phone, I've missed out the m8 & m9 and only really now considering the m10.

I have a Samsung phone for work and don't enjoy using Touchwiz - the hardware is great but the software just ruins it, put stock Android on a Samsung phone and I would definitely buy one.

The only problem with HTC is how long they will be around for - they've had a few dips over the years and competition from China is growing.

robbo, wtf do you do to your phones man?

Do they ever work?

Perhaps you should invest in an iPhone, where they "just work"?

I just use my phone and then... kerput...

No, never! (well, not yet anyways. Never say never I suppose...)

Reformatted the SD card and using it as portable and everything is stable at the mo but the internal 16GB is quickly filling up.

Yey! My regular/annual/bi-monthly/constant phone issues! Last one was stolen as opposed to broken so looking at maybe another Moto G. The 3gb 5th gen with the back-to-smaller 5" screen looks good but not liking the 16gb on board memory.

But then also quite liking using a 4.5" screen at the mo which would mean the z5 compact again or the x compact - both which will cost a lot more.

Hmmm...
