Hi Steff,
this one's for you x

I should have Nikki's PC today and the artic silver paste for tomorrow for George's PC.

On George's PC I need to:
update bios
Back up - unplug existing HDD
Plug in SSD + set boot priority
reboot with win disc - format and install
install antivirus
install steam

unplug existing CPU cooler
unlock cpu and extract
clean off CPU cooler
lock in new cpu
apply paste and re-attach cooler
turn on and hope it's all gravy
go home

On nikki's PC:
turn on without a network connection
install windows using disc
install antivirus
install photoshop
install office - can buy from work for £10 for office 2016

Steff, what I think I'm missing, can you link me to on here (or pm)
that CPU swapping video
link to bios
anything I've missed?

Thanks, Matt

the guide link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwBb8LmI5qI

On George's PC I need to:
update bios

if you want my help with this as well, connect pc to internet, install teamviewer, send me the ID/password for teamviewer and I will do it myself
same for everything you want for him or your PC, if windows is installed and internet works (by cable quickest) them with teamviewer I can do the rest (other drivers/ settings/ updates / X/ Y...)

a new year, a new PC.

My parents have a desktop that is taking 20 mins to "load up" and become useful. It's an office / internet machine by day but also a CATIA V5 workstation from time to time too. It has a regular HDD, Nvidea Geforce GTS 250 and Pentium (R) Dual Core e5300 @ 2.6. When he is in the catia app, current performance is in line with his work machines.

They are not against moving to a completely new box and fresh start or even a mix and match and them importing old files over so what would you recommend? last year I had a right ballache trying to get an SSD in so I'm thinking maybe mobo + CPU + SSDD upgrade then keeping gpu?

256 SSD for OS and main apps should be ample
1-2TB for movie/music collection should be ample
GPU - still a good card? it runs CATIA fine now...
MOBO- ?
CPU - ?
DVD - has one, doesn't need bluray
case - cooler master currently - happy to change

Thanks, Matt.
