Cloning HDD to SSD

Postby robbo » 26 Dec 2015, 12:14

Hi all,

As some of you know I'm trying to clone my HDD to an SSD to improve speed performance but have run into a problem: When selecting the target device I get an 'Incompatible Disk Selection'. This happened with EaseUS Todo Backup Free and also with Macrium Reflect. Clicking the link on the pop up error notification took me here: http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/displa ... k+Selected

My hdd has 512 sector sizes but the ssd is 4096 so is incompatible. How can I get round this? Reformat the ssd differently?

Read somewhere that all I need to do is create a blank 1mb partition on the ssd so it aligns correctly to the source hdd but I can't create a partition that small - smallest it allows me is 60something mb.

All help welcome! (Apart from off/on suggestions ;) )

*shakes fist!*

I did want to smash the laptop to pieces after a while though.
