bought few i7 CPUs for these silent builds if anyone is interested
also a 512gb SSD and 16gb RAM
it won't cost much around £500 for the highest spec

lol, I got stung by high courier costs for heavy items to these "remote" areas :)
RM is charging the same everywhere but they are too expensive for heavy items

Given my desktop has something like nine fans, I think Steff knows I'm a lost cause ;)

I love the "no fans" PCs, my main one is one of them and has a great CPU (i7-5775C)

I do like my core m laptop for its lack of fans and the cool underside but for the desktop there's no point for me, as the function of my desktop pc is its performance and it would lose far too much if it only had passive cooling.

if you are still building yours, there is an offer for the FC5 without OD http://www.quietpc.com/st-fc5-evo
these cases are rarely on offer, I guess the heavy aluminium costs too much to discount them much :)

Thanks Steff - I saw that bargain as well, I was initially after a black case but thought the white one actually looked quite nice, but then I realised this wasn't the FC5 alpha which won't support a full sized board. I was hoping to reuse my old ATX board to keep the costs down as I already have a CPU and memory.

Might have a shop around for any cheap mATX or ITX motherboard bundles
