Windows 10

Thought it deserved its own thread now.

So, we've got over it not being called W9 and that it's W10. One operating system to rule them all! PC, tablet and phone. Universal. http://www.anandtech.com/show/8919/micr ... windows-10

Hographic headsets and Cortana: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-30924022

Skype built in and separate messaging app: http://www.windowscentral.com/skype-win ... saging-app

One of those ten things we learnt from the W10 event lists including Spartan browser, free upgrade for W7/W8/WP, Xbox One game streaming to W10, touch friendly office etc: http://www.windowscentral.com/10-things ... windows-10

Oh, and a new flagship for us WP users too!

Nothing said yet but a few rumours of a mid 2015 launch for a Surface Pro 4. And maybe even a couple of different sizes which could be cool.

It would make sense to have a new Surface as a launch vehicle for the new Windows release, I'm wondering if we'll see a slight refresh of the Surface Pro 3 with Broadwell in the meantime.

I'd like a Surface-not-pro to go with it. The mobile version of Windows 10 must be able to run on ARM devices, but will that be used on some tablets too? They've not said much about it. They did say that the Surface RT and Surface 2 will get Windows 10 features, but not Windows 10. Does that mean no ARM Windows 10 for tablets? I jus' dunno.

Expect I'll hear more at the Mobile oojit nana thingyamijig.

If they could do a Non-Pro Surface with the Xbox streaming feature, that would be a massive win for me, and probably an insta-buy.

But that feature will probably be desktop bound.

Hmmm, I think they did mention streaming to tablets. I assume that means any tablet with Windows 10... <shrug>

Only existing tablets and new tablets of 8" and above will get a desktop. Phones, phablets of this size won't either. http://www.windowscentral.com/8-inch-an ... ve-desktop

All the chat I've seen with regards Xbox streaming has mentioned doing so with an SP3 but I don't they've said anything concrete yet.

Ooo, possibility of proper BBC apps for W10! Don't know why they're taking to Microsoft though. To help them out a bit? http://m.windowscentral.com/bbc-talking ... ws-10-apps

Hmmm, the BBC are getting better with Microsoft these days... Probably after they realised their press release regarding iPlayer on Windows Phone wasn't true they looked at who was making these decisions and slapped him.

Or was that a dream I had.

Going to try and enable Spartan later and see what it's like http://www.windowscentral.com/enable-sp ... ngine-ie11

And see if changing my location makes Cortana desktop work.

Some more info and speculation on Xbox one and Windows 10 http://m.windowscentral.com/xbox-one-and-windows-10

In short, all talk about pcs but streaming to phones hadn't been ruled out - so maybe a non pro tab also?

Touch based Windows Office apps now available to try for W10 previewers. Want to give them a go but don't have a touch screen so might not bother. http://www.windowscentral.com/touch-bas ... 10-preview
