Samsung F4 hard drives - firmware fix for data loss

Postby Johnmcl7 » 10 Mar 2011, 03:02

I thought this may be worth posting as I've just come across it myself, there's a potential issue on Samsung F4 drives where they can lose data if they get a S.M.A.R.T. request (or something like that) so the recommendation is to upgrade the firmware on them:

Unfortunately it doesn't seem very user friendly, I found the following thread which has a link to the Freedos iso containing the executable which seems the easiest way to do it:

I've just flashed my two new drives (bit concerned about the other two I have) which seemed to go ok although quickly tried the WHS setup and it's only seeing one drive so I'm hoping both are ok :S
