GTX 260 upgrade (from)

Postby UKIan » 16 Jan 2011, 22:40

My PC has a GTX 260 in it. What are the options for upgrades? Some where on the internet there is a really good comparison chart which shows what is faster and is kept up to date. Probably on Tom's or somewhere like that. I can't find it, so if anyone does know, can they sticky it?

Ah, but will you go for wallet friendly "bang for buck", or go all out "powaaaaah!"

bit of both. I want a significant upgrade from mine to make it worth it, but I'm not willing to pay for those few extra fps you get on the really top end cards. The Radeon HD 6970 is on overclockers for 280 at the moment, which is right at the top end of what I'd spend.

When are the next set out? Mine isn't exactly struggling at the moment, so I might wait a little, but I've got the idea in my head now and it's proving hard to shake.

I don't know if it's still the case but initially 6950 and 6970 cores were the same so you could flash the bios on the 6950 and unlock the missing parts to turn it into a 6970 albeit with slightly slower memory. As the card has a backup bios it makes it easy to revert if it goes wrong, I've been looking at the 6950's myself with this in mind.
