Quite like the look of the new Asus NX10 with B&O speakers and 12GB of DDR3 RAM. Also Graphics handled by the Nvidia GeForce GT335M. Dual track pad might take some getting used to though.

Rock/(any clevo reseller) need to pull their finger out with competition like this coming.

I'm fairly happy with my iphone, it is the best phone I've had for sure but I would get more use out of it if I had a better data network around the oxford area. Also multi tasking would be nice but hey ho.

One thing that looks to be coming forward in 2010 is wireless data streaming with the use of dongles etc. Something I'm interested in although I've go the NAS drive now with twonkey enabled so really should use it... ;)

Oo interesting, they keep calling me to tell me I can have a free 3gs as my contract has expired, but I might just do that instead as I'm not really interested until the new iPhone (Late summer?) comes out, and I'd quite like to see if Android can deliver, it still seems to suck at the moment.

Is there a new iphone due out in june? My contract is up at the end of may. I've resisted apple for a long time. But the apps store is just dragging me in!

There will be, it's just a matter of what's changed, the rumours I've heard are that it will be quite a big refresh and possibly tie into the apple tablet and what ever design is adopted for that.

I downloaded the Android developer stuff last night to have a look at. Realistically I won't play with it much, I've just got too much other stuff on to find the time, but I'll get the basics figured out :)

yeah, i dont get the point of the tablet. Lenovo have released one call skylight or something? Its designed basically for video, youtube, facebook, lite surfing. Whats the point in that?! I reckon the islate will just be a 10" iphone. and i dont get the point of that! if its got the same specs as a nvidia atom netbook, but with a £700 apple price tag!

I just wonder how you will actually hold it and use it.

I want to know why they choose an upscaled version of the iPhone OS when OSX would have made the device much more practical, had it had OSX I may have been tempted, as it is I think I will let it pass.

I can actually see the logic here - one of the problems with existing Windows tablets at least is that they need to have an X86 processor which in turn means relatively high power consumption and heat leading to a bigger battery (or rubbish batterylife) and larger cooling systems. Due to having to use slow X86 hardware it tends to lead to either being light but having useless performance or having reasonable performance and being too bulky to be used as a tablet.

The Archos 9 is a case in point, it's a reasonable stab at a tablet PC taking advantage of the low power Atom but it's not that great a package overall. It uses a very watered down Atom which is hardly a performance beast in its fastest incarnation and while it manages 5 hours batterylife it's fairly hefty at 800 grams - more than the Sony P series Netbook 600 grams) or the UX UMPC (500 grams) for example.

Upscaling the Iphone OS offers some very strong advantages, first off it can work very smoothly with a very low power processor as the Iphone 3GS is generally credited for its speed. This comes from an ArmV7 based Cortex A8 processor which uses a tiny amount of power even compared to the Atom processor, there's actually Cortex A8 PCs available that can run off the power provided from a USB port. Such a low power processor means the physical tablet can be much smaller because there's no cooling system needed and it will be possible to get decent batterylife without needing a large battery.

One of the goals of the Cortex A8 processor was for it to go beyond the mobile phone and even more so with the new Cortex A9 processor which is a large jump over the Cortex A8 as the A8 itself was over the ARM11. The Cortex A9 is ARM's first out of order processor following the same desktop evolution years ago when the Pentium Pro was Intel's first out of order processor. The Cortex A9 design is initially aimed at tablets before moving to smartphones, Nvidia have shown off their Tegra 2 platform which uses a pair of Cortex A9 processors and TI apparently have a similar dual A9 setup on the way. This could potentially be ideal for Apple as it could power their tablet now giving decent multithreaded performance with low power consumption and then migrate the platform down to the new Iphone to give it another significant power boost and deal a pretty hefty blow against the newly emerged Snapdragon platform.

One of the biggest strengths of the Iphone is without doubt the massive amount of development support it now has which makes a move like this considerably more feasible as it should mean while the tablet won't have as much functionality as a desktop OSX machine it should still be able to do a lot with the benefits of being very slim, light and great batterylife.

This is all of course just complete speculation on my behalf.

Are you meant to have one of these AND a laptop netbook when out and about? Plus your phone/ mp3 player? I just don't see where a tablet like this fits in.

I like the idea of having one, but that's just because I like shiny new things. But in terms of actually having a practical use for it, i'm not so sure.

I'd say no, my view is that this is in place of a netbook - you'd have this when wanting to travel light but needing something a little bigger to work on than your phone. As people tend to use Netbooks for basic web browsing, mail etc. that should be easily possible with a slightly beefed up Iphone OS.
