2010 - GOOGLE / CES / APPLE

Postby matt » 04 Jan 2010, 21:47

hey all,

So January looks to be a busy month with google "officially" unveiling the nexus one tommorrow, CES then an apple (islate?) event at the end of Jan....

What tech are you looking forward to?

Not really tech for me, but Granturismo should be good, perhaps the new iphone in the summer?

I was given a Sony Touch e-book reader for Xmas and have been completely sold on the e-book format. However, excellent though the PRS-600 is, it isn't perfect. I'm hoping that the que-reader or Apple's i-slate will be the breakthrough product that brings e-books in to every techies' home. Maybe an internet browsing tablet PC, crossed with an e-book reader will be the death knell for netbooks too. With project Gutenburg and Google Books making out of copyright material available for free, and public libraries now loaning out books in the epub open format, the world is ready.
Only thing is, I can't bring myself to buy an Apple product.

I am looking to see what Android based phones are coming out as really starting to dislike being tied to the iPhone.

But of course any new shiny shiny is great!

chris, you know you can unlock the iphone for free and also change down to a £20 per month simplicity deal if you are over the 17month original contract period?

I'm fairly happy with my iphone, it is the best phone I've had for sure but I would get more use out of it if I had a better data network around the oxford area. Also multi tasking would be nice but hey ho.

One thing that looks to be coming forward in 2010 is wireless data streaming with the use of dongles etc. Something I'm interested in although I've go the NAS drive now with twonkey enabled so really should use it... ;)

A new phone of some sort for me. Not decided which one yet but in no hurry at the moment.

Also looking at getting a new laptop but holding out until the mobile i5s start coming out.

Loving my G1 still. Hoping to see further big leaps with Android and some nice hardware with it on.

The new mobile i5's are a bit strange with their packaging as they're obviously a big stopgap until the proper ones are out although I've not seen any predicted performance for them.

Just had a quick read up on the mobile i3/5/7s. Not sure what to make of them all yet but will wait to see when they start appearing. This could just be my lack of tech knowledge though.

A shame it is only with Vodafone to start with unless you want to pay top dollar.

Will be interested to see what other data contracts turn up for it.
