Cheap gaming laptop

Postby UKIan » 09 Aug 2011, 13:38

Does such a thing exist? I'm thinking may be 15" or bigger, pref 1080p screen but that isn't essential, it's the gfx I don't really know what's what with. My Sony Z has a 330m which is actually bloody good. Well, it plays anything I've thrown at it with no issues so far. So I'd be happy with that sort of level of performance. Price? Cheap as humanly possible.

Been looking for something similar for the Missus. There are none on there at the moment, but on the outlet the 15" XPS or Inspirion R's can come with i7 processors and an Nvidia 540M for around £500. They seem to be the best deal. Mostly 720p though iirc.

You can drop down to the i5 processor and 525M if you want to save some more money, but I don't think that's much of an upgrade from the 330M.

Yeah, its a bit of an odd one. I really want something that is fast enough to run games which I can leave in the lounge. So it's not a main machine, just a niche thing, so cost if important. 500 seems good, looks like I'll be hanging around the dell outlet :)

hey hey, the old xctx pro seems to be almost dead now, after a brief reprival it has once again started with the phantom shut down issue. According to the guy who fixed it last time it is the GPU overheating that is causing this, which pretty much makes the thing a write off. With job successes in recent weeks reckon I will be splashing out on a decent replacement but nothing too outlandish. looking at this.
thoughts?

I was having a look around today for gaming laptops. its a shame the dell XPS gaming range is dead. the alienwares will have the best internationally backed support, and the new MX18 looks amazing! but its still £800 more than anything else!

The new MSI ones look interesting as ever! I'll see whats doing in the world of gaming machines when i go to hong kong next year!

settled on this was 800 pounds and has no pound key cos I bought in Australia which will become very annoying when I eventually return home. It was pretty much the best I could get without jumping up to silly money like the 1400 pounds I paid for Xtreme CTX pro about 5 years ago. Overall very happy with it and the sound out of it is amazing. The 15" screen seems so small compared to the 17' ctx pro but I will get use to that as portability was far more of a consideration this time around. Also a little disappointed with the 1366x768 resolution but again I will get use to it.

Skyrim here I come! :D

I went to install fallout 3, but my laptop only has nvidia 130m. so i'm thinking about getting a newer system for xmas. i reckon £500-600 will be the budget. and just try to get the fastest machine i can for the money! Maybe they'll be uber alienware discount at new year? :)
