7950 GTX gpu dying - thinking of buying a sub 800 laptop

Postby Xander » 09 Mar 2011, 11:33

Long story short it seems that my rock GPU is on its way out as there is horrible artefacts all over the screen from bios to windows, looking around the internet it seems to be a common thing with the GPU overheating. The fact my laptop managed to last 4 years (and out of warranty) is fairly impressive considering.

I think the best solution for me is to invest in a new 15" laptop for around 500-800, I am currently eyeing the Dell XPS with GeForce Graphics.

Main use is work, films and the occasional gaming use such as Call of duty style games...

Any better deals on the market currently?

Is that the main Dell store or the Outlet? The Dell 15in laptops seem to be ok value for money but if you've a little patience you may be able to bag a good spec one in the Dell outlet. Technically these machines are 'refurbished' but they're basically brand new, unwanted machines which can offer very good value for money particularly on pricey upgrades. This is where I buy most of my Dells with the main catch as I've said is you need some patience for a good machine to come up.
