Removing operating system from HDD

Postby EviL Ras » 04 Aug 2009, 19:59

Hi Guys,

So, i want to stick the 500gb drive into this new XPS as it takes 2 HDD's. is there a way to strip the operating system off the 500GB whilst leaving everything else on there? Just lets me stick all those massive canon pics and 40Gb music on the 500Gb!!

I'd copy the folders you want to keep the the root of the drive and just delete the rest, as I assume you're not wanting to boot it anymore it doesn't matter if you remove any system files.

Ah right, so everything onto the root of [F] and then delete program files / windwos / etc?

Yeh, if you're only using it an external storage drive the only data that matters is the parts you want to keep.

Well I'm hoping I'm understanding you correctly! When I upgraded the 160GB unit in my XPS M1710 to a 250GB model, I popped the 160GB in an external caddy then moved the pictures folder to the root of the drive along with some of the other folders I was keeping then just deleted everything else as it no longer mattered.
