Would mind one of these in my laptop...

If they came out tomorrow, intel and especially AMD would be in trouble. However I suspect intel (and maybe AMD) will have something to rival it when it comes out.

Actually I doubt you want this in your laptop and if it came out tomorrow I also doubt either Intel or AMD would bat an eyelid, the intention of the release is to grab headlines and draw attention to itself because there's actually nothing here for more consumers. The processor is an Itanium rival and is not x86 compatible as it uses a RISC architecture meaning it's an apples to oranges comparison against most of Intel's line - it may be fast in some areas but its purpose will be specialist number crunching. Given this is essentially a concept processor it doesn't actually compare that well against Intel's current released processors, given how smoothly Intel are die shrinking these days I wouldn't be surprised if their own prototype processors are faster.

That's the problem with 'fast-food' journalism these days, never really try to explain these things.

Suppose i'll stick with with the intel P8600 in my Sony Z11WN then :)
