Couldn't agree more. It was hugely over-rated, even more so than GTA IV, which I do still play in multiplayer, but Spore is something I rarely return too - the first PC game I've bought for a year IIRC.

Still October/November looks to be a golden time for gamers: Far Cry 2 (definitely the game I am most looking forward too), Gears 2, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, MotorStorm 2 it goes on and on and on.. :)

Yeah, haven't gone back to it at all..annoyed with myself as I rarely buy games at full price brand new but you win some, you lose some.

Fallout 3 looks really special. Might buy it full price on day one.

I'm hopeful for Fallout 3 but also dubious. Everybody who has played the game has said the same thing; the exploration and adventure aspects are great but the shooting elements, of which there is a considerable amount, suck donkey balls.

I can't see how they can get something so basic so wrong, I liked the bow and arrow mechanics in Oblivion.

I forget what they call it, but the HUD assisted shooting mechanics look really good imo. Target somebodies head and watch it fly off in glorious slow motion!! You can play it like a straight up FPS, but I don't think I will. Looks a bit like KOTOR in the RPG mode.

Watch this... Look for about 3mins in. Choo Choo!!!

Yeah it's called VATS I think which stands for something something Targeting System and it looks neat how you can focus in on specific body parts and potentially shoot a targets hand holding a weapon making them drop that weapon but quite a few hands on have said that it felt a bit clunky in play.

It may just be that some people expected more of a FPS feel but personally, I'm hoping it'll feel more Oblivion than FPS. I'll be happier when the first, final reviews are out - I really hope they don't screw up this game because I'm really looking forward to it.

Far Cry 2 is still up there at No. 1 for me.. 50 Sqr km of open landscape with GTA-style mission structure.
