USB-C Hub for laptop and desktop

Had a change of plan, decided that a USB-C hub is great but not what I should get first. I'm using a USB switch to swap USB devices between the PC/Laptop, then connecting to the monitor using Displayport for PC and HDMI for Laptop. I still need to plugin USB/HDMI/Power to the laptop, but just push t...

USB-C Hub for laptop and desktop

I'm not sure about your desktop what you'd need on that side (I'm assuming you don't have USB-C on the desktop) as the current state of USB is such a mess although if you're not needing power or display on the desktop PC it should be straightforward as that's two areas I've hit issues with using US...

USB-C Hub for laptop and desktop

So I've got a new job which involves me working from home a bit more often, so I'd like to simplify how I setup my laptop and desktop, but I'm struggling to find out what the best approach would be. The devices I have are: Monitor: HDMI and Displayport also has a built in USB hub Laptop: USB-C &...

Mobile Phone

I'm a big fan of Android and never considered iPhone, for personal use I've always stuck with phones using close to stock Android. I was given a Samsung phone for work and hated it, lots of Samsung specific apps that I don't think you can remove. Also I really didn't like the UI on Samsung, just fel...

Stupid Question - Controlling Fan Speeds

59464 Nice to hear from you again! Hopefully someone can answer this for you! But I just wanted to say hello! Thanks EviL Ras - I like to pop in now and again, always know the TechPond is a safe place where I can ask stupid questions and get serious answers :D 59465 I guess the first question is wh...

Stupid Question - Controlling Fan Speeds

So did a bit more research on this, think I might be wrong on the motherboard pins. The full manual is here: https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/C13d3RUcuSS.pdf CPU_FAN - Has CPU FAN PWN CHA_FAN - Has VCC So I'm assuming this means the chassis fan doesn't support PWN. So my current thou...

Stupid Question - Controlling Fan Speeds

So this feels like a newbie question that I should probably know the answer to, but trying to find options seems to be a challenge. I've moved my PC to a Bitfenix Phenom chassis, this gives me quite a few more options regarding the fans I can use, in my old case I had one rear fan that I powered fro...

New Alienware M15 - an ultrabook from Alienware?

Its funny how times change - I bought my first laptop as a mobile gaming PC, I was moving around a lot with work so was easier than a PC. But once work settled down I went back to a PC - Mainly down to cost and upgrade options, gradually upgrade bits over the years instead of large investments every...

Intel show off 28 core processor at 5ghz

I was reading about this as well, the intel processor was a bit of a joke, not entirely sure they were trying to prove. I'm probably being a bit dumb, but are these processors targeted at the consumer market in anyway or are they just for Commercial/Enterprise use? Even for a gaming PC wouldn't ther...

Topping MX3 - Desktop Ammplifier

I think this is just an alternative to an internal soundcard and allows you to use passive speakers - I think there is a theory that an internal soundcard can get interference, but it isn't something that I've noticed - But I'm definitely not an Audiophile (That's probably why I don't understand Hea...

Topping MX3 - Desktop Ammplifier

A friend of mine has a very old Creative Labs DTT3500 speaker setup and he's thinking of replacing them, he's found a neat desktop amp (http://en.tpdz.net/products_detail/productId=35.html) that he likes the look of, it appears to have digital input (Including USB/Bluetooth/NFC) and as far as I can ...

Flat v Curved Monitors?

Thanks for all the comments guys - Think I'm going to get my geek on with a good spreadsheet and start comparing options available. At the moment my initial options are: AOC Q2778VQE - http://eu.aoc.com/en/products/q2778vqe?redirected=true Iiyama Silver Crow G-Master - http://gmaster.iiyama.com/gl_e...

Flat v Curved Monitors?

So I've been doing a bit more research on this, think I might have jumped the gun a bit and didn't appreciate the range of options available. Resolution - I think I've blissfully ignored the differences in resolution, my current resolution is 1680 x 1050 and it seems the most common resolution is 10...

Flat v Curved Monitors?

59252 For TV's its a waste of time unless its huge and you're sat 4 ft from it. monitors are different. You sit closer. And an ultrawide starts to look like 2 monitors but without a bezel in the middle. and as you sit close to it, curved looks better as it wraps around your vision. This is exactly ...

Flat v Curved Monitors?

So I've done a few upgrades on my desktop PC over the last few years, but completely neglected the monitor (Which might be a bit stupid after splashing out on a nice Gfx card last year but using a 10+ year old monitor) My current monitor is 24" and I use it mainly for browsing the internet and ...
