Re: Ubuntu Linux

Thanks.

I've been recommended to look at ThinkPads or Toshiba laptops. ThinkPads are a safe bet, but they have limited specs. Although, the current Toshiba at the moment is the A500, a Google search showed up a few people having problems with it and Ubuntu.

Hmm.

Re: Ubuntu Linux

I'm starting to think about getting a new laptop. My XCT is running great, but I wouldn't mind something smaller and with lots more battery life (I don't even get an hour on this), but a nvidia (or ati if I have to) graphics card would be nice. Although, I'm not really sure what would be compatible ...

Re: Dear Blog V11

Dear blog,
I've been playing a racing sim called Torcs. Now, my four year old laptop can play this game at over 400 frames per second. But it makes the CPU & GPU run so hot, that the laptop's cooling fans are making the laptop sound like the cars in the game!

I have a spare 80gb I might play around with to see what happens.

Good luck, I'm rolling with Ubuntu only and enjoying myself here
(I do have a virtualised XP, but have only used it for blogging research).

Re: Ubuntu Linux

Hey guys, not sure if any of you know how to do this but I discovered how to set the power button on the M1330 to partition 1 (Windows) and the Media Direct key to partition 2(Mac OS) on a multibooted hard drive. So we’ll set things up so that the power button boots into Windows and the "Media...

Re: Google Wave

I've been testing it for a few weeks, but still trying to get comfortable with it. The important thing to keep in mind is that it's still in a pre-beta state, and it's different to anything you've used before, kinda.

Re: 32gb usb stick?

I have a 64GB Corsair Flash Voyager, haven't benchmarked it, but it has been reliable after a lot of read/write punishment. I use it as my primary backup media.

Re: Linux Distros

I'm running 9.04 exclusively on my Rock Xtreme CT. Haven't quite plucked up the courage to do a distro upgrade yet. Figured I'd wait a week or two for any prospective bug fixes before trying it, if at all. Thing is, my system is set up well, so I don't actually need to trade up, and 10.04 is an LTS ...

Re: Push email on the iPhone

On my new Nokia E55, I had the option of turning any of my IMAP services in to a Push service (via "Nokia Messaging"), but I declined. I really don't like the idea of push email, it's just too distracting and intrusive (it's bad enough with text messages, but at least you can deal with the...

Re: Dear Blog V10

John, Haven't directly run into this one before. On the E55 I've subscribed to two IMAP folders with over 1,000 messages, and I can set a limit (which I set to 30) of how many headers to download. Although, I haven't had need to dip into those folders yet. I'll test it out for you though. Dear Blog...

Re: Dear Blog V10

Thanks for the kind words everyone :) Dear Blog, Well done Dave, that's great work - I'm wondering whether the new e-mail client fixes the rather severe bug on existing Nokia phones with auto-retrieve/auto-connect? On the mode where the phone auto connects the mailbox it attempts to download *every*...
